How it Started
I studied fine arts at Mount Allison University and Business Administration at UPEI, and I learned the value of hard work as a USPORTS athlete (go Panthers!). I’ve spent years as a photographer, a woodworker, painter, and general artist, but didn’t become familiar with flowers as I know them until around 2018.
We moved to a rental home in the hills of rural PEI, and caring for a huge and unruly cottage garden was a challenge I took on with determination.
I had plenty of experience with vegetable gardening, but the first time I walked around that garden cutting flowers and sat down to arrange them, I was hooked.
I had never experienced flowers other than your typical Valentine’s roses.
These fresh flowers were wild, full of life and variety. The work that I had put in to care for them made them not just beautiful, but sentimental.
They weren’t just another purchase, a serotonin boost to be forgotten in a closet like many of my shopping whims. I watched them complete the indoor part of their life cycle and head to the compost for the rest, but there was a new bouquet to come inside every week.
I had to work with what nature gave me, and the results were always different.
The changing materials throughout the seasons enhanced my creativity as an artist. I’ve been taught that our best work is often produced under material constraints, as we are forced to push the envelope.
The journey to today has been long and filled with hard work, but I’m beyond happy to finally launch and offer this experience to my community.
I hope I can help others spread joy and connect with each other, because we need it so badly right now. Here’s to making the world a better place together - through flowers!
